General Tips &
Techniques:
* Be sure to keep yarn tension firm and consistent throughout your work.
* At the end of each row, I have given the number of stitches you
should have.
This is just a guide. If you are off by 1 or 2 stitches,
don’t
worry about it.
Amigurumi is very forgiving.
Magic Ring:
Leaving a long tail, at least 12”, Ch. 4, join with sl st
into
first st. Work
10 sc into center ring and around tail, do not join. Pull tail to close
the
hole in the ring. Tie tail to working yarn.

Materials:
Worsted weight yarn in 6 colors of your choice.
Crochet hook size D3 (U.S.)
12mm Safety eyes or eyes (Chuckles has 12mm royal blue pinwheel
Suncatcher Eyes
in the photo above).
Polyfil or stuffing of
your choice (available at most craft
and department stores).
Yarn needle.
Ribbon and button trims.
Chuckles Pattern:
Beginning at top of head:
Row 1: Using head color, create Magic Ring as above.
Row 2: 2 sc in each sc around.
Row 3: *1 sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc*, repeat from * to * around.
Row 4: 1 sc in each
sc around.
Row 5:
*1 sc in next
sc, 2 sc in next sc*, repeat from * to * around.
Rows 6-10:
1 sc in
each sc around.
Row 11:
*1 sc in next
3 sc, sc2tog*, repeat from * to * around.
Row 12:
*1 sc in next
3 sc, sc2tog*, repeat from * to * around.
Add facial
features now. Eyes
are positioned in row 8,

sc apart. Begin
eyebrows 1 row up from
eyes, sew stitch over one sc and up 3 rows, sew 2nd
stitch
over one
and down 3 rows. Nose
is positioned
between eyes and down 3 rows. Smile
is
directly under the left eye, down 4 rows, down 2 rows and across 1 sc,
and then
across 2 sc.
Row 13: *1
sc in next
2 sc, sc2tog*, repeat from * to * around.
Row 14:
1 sc in each
sc around.
Change to 1st
shirt color.
Row 15:
*1 sc in next
2 sc, 2 sc in next sc*, repeat from * to * around.
Add 2nd
shirt color.
Rows 16-20:
Alternating
1st and 2nd
shirt colors, 1 sc in each
sc around.
Change to
shorts color.
Rows 21-23: 1
sc in
each sc around. Join
with sl st and end,
leaving a long tail for sewing.
Bottom of Body:
Row 1: Create Magic Ring
as above.
Row 2:
2 sc in each
sc around.
Row 3:
*1 sc in next
2 sc, 2 sc in next sc*, repeat from * to * around.
Join with sl st and end, leaving a long
tail
for sewing.
Sew to bottom of body,
leaving a 1” gap. Stuff
head and
body firmly. Sew up
remaining 1” gap.
Nose:
Row 1:
Using red and
leaving a long tail, ch. 4. Join
with sl
st into first st. Work 7 sc into center ring and around tail, do not
join. Pull
tail to close the hole in the ring. Tie tail to working yarn.
Row 2:
*1 sc in next
sc, 2 sc in next sc*, repeat from * to * around.
Rows 3-4:
1 sc in
each sc around.
Row 5:
Sc2tog
around. Join with
sl st and end, leaving
a long tail for sewing.
Hat:
Row 1:
Using hat
color, create Magic Ring as above.
Row 2:
2 sc in each
sc around.
Rows 3-5:
1 sc in
each sc around.
Row 6:
2 sc in each
sc around.
Row 7:
*1 sc in next
2 sc, 2 sc in next sc*, repeat from * to * around.
Join with sl st and end, leaving a tail
for
sewing.
Arms (make 2):
Row 1:
Ch.
6, 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch
across. Ch.
1, turn.
Rows 2-4:
1 sc in
each sc across. Ch.
1, turn.
Row 5:
1 sc in each
sc across. Join
with sl st and end,
leaving a long tail for sewing.
Fold arm in half and sew
up the side to form a tube (arm)
shape.
Join white at
one end of the tube (for hand shaping).
Row 6:
1 sc in each
sc or row around.
Row 7:
2 sc in each
sc around.
Row 8-9:
1 sc in each
sc around.
Row 10:
*1 sc in next
sc, sc2tog*, repeat from * to * around.
Join with sl st and end,
leaving a long tail for sewing the
hole at the end of the hand closed.
Do
not stuff arms. They
can be positioned
in many ways if not stuffed.
Legs of Shorts (make
2):
Row 1:
Ch.
14, join with sl st to form a ring.
Row 2:
1 sc in each
sc around.
Row 3:
1 sc in each
sc around.
Row 4:
1 sc in each
sc around. Join
with sl st and
end, leaving a tail for sewing.
Do not attach legs of
shorts until after legs are attached.
Legs (make 2):
Row 1:
Ch.
10, join with sl st to form a ring.
1 sc
in each sc around.
Rows 2-7:
1 sc in
each sc around.
Change to sock
color.
Row 8:
1 sc in each
sc around.
Row 9:
1 sc in each
sc around. Join
with sl st and end,
leaving a long tail for sewing.
Feet
(make 2):
Row 1:
Create Magic
Ring as above.
Row 2:
2 sc in each
sc around.
Row 3:
*1 hdc in next
st, 2 hdc in next st* 3 times. 1

Sew each bottom to foot,
leaving a 1” gap. Stuff
foot firmly,
and then sew up remaining
1” gap.
Finishing:
Legs: Sew legs to
bottom front of body,
making sure sock color is at the bottom.
Stuff
firmly. Using tail
left on
socks, sew feet to legs.
Legs of shorts:
Slide
legs of shorts up the clown’s legs to his shorts.
Using the tail left on the
legs of the
shorts, sew legs of shorts to shorts, spacing them 1 sc apart.
Hair:
Make two 1”
to
2” pompoms. Sew
one on each side of
head,
halfway down.
Sew on hat, leaving a
1” gap for stuffing. Stuff
hat to
keep its shape. Sew
remaining 1” gap
closed. Add a ribbon
around the hat.
Sew two buttons to the
front of the clown’s shirt.
Add 1” pompoms to
the clown’s shoes.
