Quick & Easy
Crochet Pattern

Grumpies take your grumpy feelings away so you don't need to feel grumpy anymore.  Make one for your favorite grump!

Finished dolls measure approximately 2” tall (5 cm).

General Tips & Techniques:
* Be sure to keep yarn tension firm and consistent throughout your work.
* At the end of each row, I have given the number of stitches you should have. This is just a guide. If you are off by 1 or 2 stitches, don’t worry about it. Amigurumi is very forgiving.

Abbreviations:
ch         chain

hdc       half double crochet

sc         single crochet
sk         skip

sl st      slip stitch

st          stitch

Materials:
Worsted weight yarn (I like Caron Simply Soft, Bernat Satin, or Red Heart Soft).

Crochet hooks, sizes D and E

12mm Safety eyes (Grumpies shown have Suncatcher Eyes)

Stuffing

Yarn needle

Pattern:
Row 1: Begin at top of head and use white yarn and size E crochet hook.  Leaving a long tail, ch. 4.  Join with sl st into first st.  Work 10 sc into center ring and around tail.  Do not join.  Pull tail to close the hole in the ring, 10 st.  Place marker at beginning of row.

Row 2:  2 sc in each sc around, 20 st.

Rows 3-7:  1 sc in each sc around, 20 st.

Change to second yarn color and size D crochet hook.
Rows 8-11:  1 sc in each sc around, 20 st.

Row 12:  1 sc in each sc around, 20 st.  Join with sl st and end.

Add safety eyes and facial features at this point.

Bottom:
Row 1:  Leaving a long tail, ch 4.  Join with sl st in to first st.  Work 10 sc into center ring and around tail.  Do not join.  Pull tail to close the hole in the ring.  10 st.

Row 2:  2 sc in each sc around, 20 st.  Join with sl st and end, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Finishing: Use the tail to sew the bottom to the bottom of the body, leaving an approx. 2” opening for stuffing.  Stuff and finish sewing body closed.  To hide the yarn end, insert the needle into the body and push up and through the other side.  Pull the yarn tight, and cut it close to the body.  That will hide the yarn end inside the body and prevent it from coming loose.

Braid:  Cut about a 12” length of yarn.  Fold it in half.  Stick the crochet hook in one hole and out another on the head (around a stitch).  Grab the yarn with the hook and pull a small loop of the yarn through.  Keeping the hook in the loop, hook the two sections of yarn and pull another loop through the first (like you are making a crochet chain with 2 yarns).  Repeat until the braid is the length you like.  Pull tightly to end and cut yarn to desired length.
