About
Suncatcher Eyes
History:
I began
making amigurumi (crocheted dolls and animals), but after a while
the same old blackand brown craft eyes seemed rather boring,
and I wanted more colorful eyes for my creations. I began
experimenting with painting craft eyes, and Suncatcher Craft Eyes were
born.
How they are
made:
Suncatcher Eyes are made with safety in mind. I use
only acrylic
paint, which is nontoxic and safe for children. Please note
that
Suncatcher Eyes are not safe for items meant for babies, very young
children who put things in their mouths, or pets. This is because
our craft eyes are made with small pieces that may cause a choking
hazard..
Production time: Suncather
Craft Eyes require approximately 5 to 7 days to paint and dry
thoroughly before mailing. Humidity also plays a factor, so in
rainy or very humid weather, this time may increase. If it takes
longer than 7 days for your custom eyes to dry, I will notify you by
email about the delay.
Shipping time: Please
be sure your PayPal shipping address is correct. This will ensure
your package gets to you quickly with no delay. I will send a
confirmation email of your order that includes your PayPal
shipping address for you to review prior to your order being
mailed.
Rush orders: Because
opaque and shimmer Suncatcher Craft Eyes are hand painted to order,
many of the colors require 5 to 7 days to fully dry before they can be
mailed. However, clear, black, and translucent eyes can be rush ordered
and shipped within 24 hours. Shipping via Priority and Express Mail is available upon request.
Washing tips:
Suncatcher
Craft Eyes are made wiith color-fast paints. However, because
there is a slight possibility that a color may run, I suggest spot
washing any items made with Suncatcher Craft Eyes, and try not to get
the eyes wet. Please also avoid any hand lotions and detergents
near the eyes.
Baking:
Unfortunately Suncatcher Eyes cannot be put in the oven and baked.
They are made of a durable plastic, but the heat will cause
the
eye to cloud over.
Use of glue: Please use glue only on the stems of the eyes and not on the colored (painted) part as they could discolor.
CPSIA:
The plastic craft eyes that I use to make Suncatcher Eyes have passed
CPSIA testing. All paints used in the
production of Suncatcher Eyes are certified nontoxic by the Art
& Creative Materials
Institute (ACMI). More details are available upon request.

DIY tips:
1. Nail polish should not be used to
paint
acrylic/plastic craft eyes as it will eat away the plastic over time. Get a good water-based acrylic
paint
from your craft store like FolkArt or Apple Barrel.
2. If you find that your acrylic paint is a bit thick, try
adding
a bit of water to it. You don't want it runny, but you don't want it
too thick either. I like mine about the consistency of
ketchup.
3. Allow your painted eyes to dry at least 24-48 hours before
using
them, and check to make sure they are not tacky. In humid or
rainy weather, allow extra drying time. Questions?
